I did not sleep well, didn’t really expect to, first night out. Packed up, had a smoothie and outta there. The smoothie is part of my new nutrition plan, a quick smoothie, hit the trail, real breakfast, and coffee, in an hour or so after breaking camp. Found a great spot for morning coffee.
Today was finishing segment three (CW-3) of the colligate west. Two passes In a row each spectacular. After that down to Tin Cup Road and the start of CW-4.
I got down there around noon and there was a tent at the trail head, trail magic, no. A trail run was underway, there was even a sign that said the rail was closed. I ignored it. So I was already tired with rain threatening and a nice comfy campsite just past the trail head. It started drizzling. I had enough miles for the day but it was so early. I had a decision to make, some lunch may help me figure it out. Had lunch and interesting enough I decided to keep going in the rain. With no known campsite ahead of me.
Weather to go or not is almost always a tough decision. Do I have a enough energy? Will I find a campsite? How bad is the weather going to get? All of those question ran through my mind and I decided to take the risk and go.
Good decision. At first I did not find a campsite but I did find two moose! First time seeing them on the trail very cool. But, they were blocking the trail. I had no idea what to do. I waited, a trail runner came buy and ran right past them, making noise as he did. I was NOT about to do that. Finally I decided to head back down the trail and that previous campsite. As I was getting ready I noticed that the land above the trail appeared to level off. I trudged up there and aure enough I found an area suitable for camping. Looks like there had been alot of camping there, nothing recent. Now sitting in my tent listening to rain and thunder, thunder is really loud up here.
