I have to finish this thing, if I don’t it will be on my mind forever so, here I go! Back on the Colorado Trail.
There were a couple goals for today first make it past where I ended last time. That was eight miles in. It was a beautiful sheltered campsite. The shelter was key last year due to the weather that rolled in.
The second goal was to make it over the pass by Rolling mountain, 12,505 feet. I did it, and on the way passed the trail up Engineer mountain, I’d like to come back someday just to hike up that mountain, an engineer standing on Engineer mountain, LOL!
After making it over that pass it was time to find a place to camp. The book stated there was camping by Cascade creek so that would be the end of the day. Hiked downhill looking for the creek and anticipating getting this enormously heavy pack off of me. What I found at cascade creek was spectacular. If you can, enlarge the following picture and take it all in, of course a picture does not do it justice but it was easily one of the top 10 most beautiful spots on the trail for me.
This was the heaviest my pack would be on the trip, 7 days worth of food and total weight of 43 pounds. I was exhausted. Setup camp, ate dinner and was in the tent by 7PM. Just after dark I had a little surprise. I had my tent fly open so could see outside and here walks over a deer, about five feet away. She stops, bends over and looks in the tent at me. I said “hello” and she just kind of tilts her head to the side a bit and slowly walks away. Wow!
Beautiful, thank for sharing! Go team Dean.
Beautiful!
Those are some really awesome views.
Wow…what a gorgeous trek to start with!
