Silverton was a nice town, it’s totally different and laid back when the train leaves. Checked out of the motel and met Juls and Two Mile for breakfast at a deli nearby. Had a breakfast sandwich and a sub for the road.
After breakfast it was time to hitch back to the trailhead. No shuttle services at all available. Juls was unhappy about that but Two and I were pretty confident we could get one. Went out to the gas station at the edge of town and stuck our thumbs out. More hikers were coming and before to long there were seven of us. Kind of concerning. After about 10 minutes a nice guy in a pick up stopped, we piled in, and off to the trailhead.
Just planned on doing eight miles, heavy pack. That’s all we did. Got to camp early and was able to setup and get water before the thunderstorms moved in. Ended up cooking dinner in the tent which I really hate to do. Never want to have food and especially cooking in the tent. It did not stop raining.
